Murrumbidgee Council scholarship recipients announced

Murrumbidgee Council has announced the successful recipients of the 2026 Community Grants and Education Scholarships programs.

Mayor, Ruth McRae OAM said the programs are about backing the local community, whether that’s supporting grassroots organisations, improving facilities or helping students pursue their education.

“As always, we’re thrilled to be able to support an exciting range of projects and opportunities that benefit our community,” she said.

The following organisations have been awarded Murrumbidgee Council Community Grants Program funding:

1.      St Peter’s Primary School Coleambally – $2,000 – Purchase of new sporting equipment to enhance student skills

2.      St Joseph’s Church Jerilderie – $2,000 – Phase 2 of rising damp maintenance works on the historic Catholic Church building, including surveying costs

3.      Jerilderie Public School P&C – $2,000 – Contribution to a three-day outdoor education excursion for Years 3 to 6

4.      Toganmain Woolshed Precinct Inc – $2,000 –Reinstallation of ceilings in the kitchen and dining hall to improve safety

5.      Jerilderie Football Netball Club – $1,940.72 – Purchase of Auskick resources and netball training bibs

6.      Jerilderie Sports Club – $2,000 – Purchase of golf clubs and buggy for community use

7.      Jerilderie Cricket Club Inc – $2,000 – Installation of wall-mounted oscillating mister fans at Monash Park

8.      St Joseph’s Jerilderie – $1,600 – Two-week intensive swimming program for primary students

9.      Cypress View Lodge Residential Aged Care Facility – $2,000 – Replacement of medication trolley with a safer and more efficient model

10.  Country Women’s Association, Coleambally Argoon Branch – $2,000 – Six-week wellbeing program for women aged 40 to 65

The following projects have been supported through the Coleambally Solar Farm Community Grants Program:

1.      St Peter’s Primary School, Coleambally – $3,000 – Contribution to a sport and recreation excursion

2.      Darlington Point Coleambally Rugby League Football Club – $2,000 – Contribution to the VEO game day camera annual fee

3.      Coleambally Community Club – $3,000 – Installation of an ice machine

4.      Coleambally Central School P&C Association – $1,975 – Swimming lessons for primary students

A further $10,000 was allocated to the Murrumbidgee Community Experimental/Demonstration Farm.

Neoen Australia Chief Operating Officer, Pedro Gonçalves said the organisation is proud that the Coleambally Solar Farm is supporting local initiatives that deliver long-term benefits.

“Through our Community Grants Program, we are committed to investing in projects that strengthen community wellbeing, support young people and enhance local facilities,” Mr Gonçalves said.

The Lions Club of Darlington Point grant recipient is Country Education Foundation of Coleambally/Darlington Point.

Council has also awarded education scholarships valued at $1,000 each to support local students Ava Belling, Michalla Bright and Isala Burns in their ongoing studies.

Mayor McRae said the Council was proud to partner with community organisations to deliver initiatives that strengthen the community and create opportunities for people of all ages.

“Congratulations to all recipients and thank you to everyone who continues to make the Murrumbidgee area a strong and connected community,” she said.
