Moyne parks sell out for Labour weekend

The no vacancy sign is up at all six Moyne Shire Caravan Parks as the region gears up for an action-packed long weekend.

More than 5,000 people are expected in Port Fairy’s two caravan parks with the Folk Festival headlining the long weekend, with Motorcross at Grassmere, showjumping championships at Mortlake and a Fishing competition at Yambuk adding to the program.

Moyne Shire Mayor, Ian Smith said staff at Council’s Visitor Information Centre in Port Fairy and other accommodation providers have all reported very strong enquiry levels.

“Last year the March long weekend injected almost $4 million into the local economy, and we are expecting similar results this year,” he said.

“It’s a huge weekend across the shire, to have all six of our caravan parks at capacity is brilliant and once again proves that we are the events shire – there is always something happening in Moyne.”

Mayor Smith said Council had again partnered with the Folk Festival Committee to bring the streets of Port Fairy alive with the Street Fair.

“It’s a free program of live music and kids’ entertainment, market stalls and food from Friday night through till Monday,” he said.

“The Street Fair brings the festival vibe from the Folkie arena out into the street – so if you don’t have a ticket for the festival, there is plenty of free music and entertainment across the weekend. We are very grateful to the festival committee for their support in bringing the street fair to life.”
