Mornington Peninsula councillor elected to VLGA board

Mornington Peninsula Shire Councillor, Steve Holland, has been elected to the Victorian Local Government Association (VLGA) board for a three year period commencing 1 July 2021.

The VLGA board is the governing body of the VLGA – setting long term strategy and policy for the benefit of its members and the local government sector as well as providing risk and governance oversight for the organisation.

Briars Ward Councillor Holland’s appointment continues the recent trend of Mornington Peninsula Shire councillors representing the community on state-wide forums.

Earlier this year the Victorian Government appointed Mayor Despi O’Connor to the 2021 Local Government Mayoral Advisory Panel and Deputy Mayor Sarah Race to its Gender Equality Advisory Committee.

“On behalf of my fellow Councillors and the community, I’d like to congratulate Cr Holland on his election to the VLGA Board,” said Mayor O’Connor.

“Steve will be a great asset to the Board and it’s wonderful to see another Shire Councillor getting an opportunity to contribute at a state level.”

Councillor Holland said the VLGA’s focus of strengthening good governance in local government was a key interest of his own.

“I’m looking forward to working with the Board to continue their ongoing effort of building trust and confidence in the sector and helping local Councillors from around Victoria deliver for their communities,” Cr Holland said.
