Monash council waste goes solar

Three solar compaction bins have been installed in Clayton and Mount Waverley in a one-month trial to assist with waste compaction and bin capacity, City of Monash Council has announced.

It said an existing waste bin at the rear of the Clayton arcade had been replaced with a 240L solar compaction bin and waste and recycling bins in Hamilton Place, Mount Waverley, had been replaced with larger recycling and waste bins.

“Solar panels power the compaction of the contents of the bins, potentially fitting eight times more material in the bin,” Council said.

“The waste team will monitor performance of the bin and receive alerts when they are filling up.”
