Four projects in Victoria’s Mitchell Shire have received funding from the Victorian Government’s 2021/22 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.
Minister for Community Sport, Ros Spence and Member for McEwan, Rob Mitchell were at Wallan Secondary College yesterday to make the funding announcement.
The $800,000 Wallan Secondary College Pavilion Project will receive $533,000 from Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Female Friendly Facilities Stream, with $267,000 to come from Mitchell Shire Council.
Council says the project will deliver a new pavilion for the College with two unisex change rooms, two umpire rooms, accessible public toilet, kiosk and storage.
Delivery of the project will further activate this site for community sporting club use, Council said. Currently players, coaches and spectators must walk several hundred metres to a public toilet block.
The Shire’s Kings Park Riding Develops Abilities Facility Improvements project will receive $167,000 from Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Community Facilities Stream.
Riding Develops Ability (RDA) groups give people of all abilities the opportunity to participate in horse riding programs catering to their specific needs.
This project will deliver a range of facility improvements for Seymour RDA including installation of a roof over the outdoor arena to improve scheduling and participation opportunities
The third works project to receive funding is the Seymour Tennis Complex Lighting Project, which will receive $151,000 from Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Community Sports Lighting Stream, with Mitchell Shire Council chipping in $75,000.
This project will deliver competition standard LED lighting system for four currently unlit courts at the Seymour Tennis Complex.
The final project to secure funding is the Mitchell Open Space Strategy, which will receive $30,000 from Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Planning Stream and $40,000 from Mitchell Shire Council.
This project will see development of a new Council Open Space Strategy to better address changing growth patterns and community needs in Mitchell.
“We’re very pleased to see these important projects being funded and I know they will have a positive impact in our communities,” said Mayor, Bill Chisholm.
“The projects will benefit many people in Mitchell Shire that participate in a broad range of activities.
“We’re a growing Shire and we’re already seeing our facilities being used more than they ever have. Preparing for significant population growth is a challenge but one Council is tackling head on.
“This funding from the Victorian Government is very important and we’re pleased to have their support to provide for our communities,” he said.
