MAV says Victorian Premier will be remembered as ‘a leader of conviction’

The Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) says departing Victorian Premier, Daniel Andrews, will be remembered as a leader of conviction and instrumental in social reform over his nine-year tenure.

On behalf of the Victorian local government sector, MAV President, Councillor David Clark wished the Premier and his family well and thanked him for his years of service to Victoria following his resignation announcement yesterday.

“Without doubt, Premier Andrews has left his mark on the state, leading Victoria through unprecedented challenges and implementing a wide spanning program of legislative reform – particularly social reform,’’ President Clark said.

“He has led from front, and consistently been unafraid of making tough decisions.”

In a social media post following a press conference to announce his departure, Mr Andrews wrote:

“Leading this state has been the greatest of gifts, every single day. Thank you, Victoria.”

The Labor caucus is expected to vote on Mr Andrews’ replacement at around midday today.
