Maitland City Council is partnering with the Department of Communities & Justice to deliver multi-agency support to local residents in the wake of this week’s damaging storm event.
A state of Natural Disaster has been declared for the Maitland and Port Stephens local government areas.
“I would like to thank the State and Federal Governments, the SES, Ausgrid, Hunter Water, Council staff as well as all organisations and support agencies who are working tirelessly to support our community and to clean up after the storm,” said Mayor Philip Penfold.
“It’s wonderful to see the community supporting each other in this tough time, please remember to check in on family and neighbours, particularly those who may be vulnerable.”
A range of services are being made available to the Maitland community. The Department of Communities & Justice – Welfare services have arranged for the Salvation Army food truck to be at Noel Unicomb Community Centre in Woodberry, offering hot meals today from 5pm – 7pm and tomorrow from noon to 2pm and 5pm – 7pm.
Council, Ausgrid and SES staff will also be on hand to offer support to affected residents today and tomorrow from 2pm to 6pm at the Pat Hughes Community Centre, Thornton.
The Council is also offering free green waste drop off at the Resource Recovery Facility at 109 Mount Vincent Road until 3.45pm on Sunday 26 January.
