Logan slam dunk for Basketball Queensland

Basketball Queensland is set to be the newest star on the court at Logan Metro Sports and Events Centre.

Logan City Council will enter into a five-year lease agreement with the state’s peak basketball governing organisation for the management of its Crestmead facility.

City Lifestyle Chair, Councillor Laurie Koranski said Basketball Queensland would bring economic and sporting benefits to the City of Logan.

“Logan Metro is an excellent venue and to have Basketball Queensland seek it out is testament to the quality of our facilities,” Cr Koranski said.

“They are committed to managing this venue as a multi-sport facility and will support existing user groups to grow their activities at Logan Metro.”

Division 8 Councillor, Jacob Heremaia said the courts at Logan Metro had recently been replaced and Basketball Queensland has some exciting plans for the facility.

“Logan Metro is an important community facility that will continue to be used for years into the future,” Cr Heremaia said.

Basketball Queensland has 36 affiliated member associations that deliver competitions, development programs and high-level governance to more than 45,000 players, coaches, officials and administrators.

Chief Executive Officer, Graham Burns said Basketball Queensland was excited join the City of Logan community and have a new home at Logan Metro Sports and Events Centre.

“Logan’s strong sense of community first, combined with the progressive nature of the city are key reasons why Basketball Queensland identified Logan as a potential home,” he said.

“We look forward to working closely with Logan City Council and key community stakeholders to ensure that we, as an organisation, continue to champion these values through our management of the Logan Metro Sports and Events Centre.”

He said Basketball Queensland will ensure the venue continues to be available to host a range of sporting, community and civic events.

The lease does not include the Logan Metro Insports Gym, which will continue to be managed by Council including the delivery of Allied Health Programs to the community.
