Local Roads, Transport and Infrastructure Congress rolls into Bendigo

The Australian Local Government Association’s (ALGA) 2025 National Local Roads, Transport and Infrastructure Congress will take place in Bendigo, Victoria on 11–12 November, bringing together local government leaders, experts and stakeholders from across the country.

ALGA President, Gladstone Mayor Matt Burnett said Australia’s local governments play a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s infrastructure landscape.

“We are bringing over 200 delegates together over two days to share ideas, tackle local road and infrastructure challenges, and most importantly, discuss how we can work together, across all governments, to improve our nation’s productivity.”

“We stand ready to play a strong role in efficient ‘first mile and last mile’ delivery on our local roads, and want ensure that councils have the resources to do so. Our foundation funding under the Financial Assistance Grants must be reviewed, and must increase to 1% of Commonwealth Taxation Revenue.”

This year’s theme, ‘Driving National Productivity’, will shape a comprehensive program focused on roads, transport, and community infrastructure. With councils managing the majority of Australia’s road network, the Congress provides a vital opportunity to connect, collaborate, and advance solutions for safer, more productive communities.

The program has a strong focus on how roads underpin the nation’s productivity, including the latest methods in practical road maintenance, roads funding, freight and logistics, road construction and strategies for building and managing a safer road network.
