Lismore City Mayor, Steve Krieg, has welcomed 23 new citizens at an Australian Citizenship Ceremony held today at the Council Chambers.
The new citizens have come from the United Kingdom, New Zealand, India, Finland, Northern Ireland, Kenya, Brazil, Turkey, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Sierra Leone and Egypt.
Mayor Krieg said it was an honour to take part in welcoming new citizens to Australia.
“One of the best parts of my job is to warmly welcome new Australian citizens who are now part of the common bond that unites all Australians and respects diversity,” he said.
“Congratulations and welcome to our new citizens. Australia is one of the most culturally diverse nations in the world, and since 1949, we have welcomed more than five million new citizens to our shores.”
