Lismore City Council has hosted local contractors and prominent construction companies for an industry briefing to provide key insights into upcoming flood restoration works following last year’s severe weather event.
Council says the briefing session, held at Southern Cross University last week, provided a comprehensive overview of the procurement strategy for the upcoming works, including the selection process for appointing a Managing Contractor.
Council’s Chief Operating Officer, Brendan Logan said the industry briefing helped to foster collaboration and engagement between local businesses and the potential managing contractor.
“The briefing presented an opportunity for a range of businesses to establish new connections,” said Mr Logan.
“It outlined to them the opportunities that will emerge for them to participate in a rebuild project that will have significant benefits for our community and their businesses.”
The briefing outlined the scope of works and attendees received updates on the specific damage sites across hundreds of local road and bridge assets.
At the conclusion of the briefing, a networking event was held to provide local businesses an opportunity to form relationships with some of the industry’s most experienced companies.
Council’s Flood Recovery team has already completed $13 million of emergency works and $17 million of Immediate Restoration Works, with the works to date completed using both internal resources and local contractors.
Funding for the project will be provided by the Commonwealth through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
The managing contractor scope is expected to go to market in September 2023, and will be preceded by another briefing session, site visit and workshops. Evaluation and award of the contract are expected to take place in December, Council said in a statement.
