LGA South Australia has called on all political parties and candidates to invest in local and commit to a plan that strengthens communities, drives economic growth and builds strong state and local partnerships, with the release of an election priorities report ahead of the 2026 State Election.
The 2026 State Election Platform, released under the banner Invest in Local – It Starts Where You Live, outlines five key pillars that the Association says represent the most pressing needs of South Australia’s councils and communities:
- Transport and Infrastructure
- Environment and Climate
- Disaster Resilience
- Stronger Communities
- Financial Sustainability
LGA President, Mayor Heather Holmes-Ross said the Platform reflects opportunities that can be unlocked through genuine collaboration with the next state government.

“Local government is where community life happens, from the roads people drive on, to the parks they enjoy and the services they depend on,” Mayor Holmes-Ross said.
“Councils already partner with the state government on infrastructure, environmental programs, and community wellbeing. But with the right investment and collaboration, we can do even more to strengthen communities, grow the economy and improve the daily lives of South Australians.”
