Dungog Shire Council has appointed Daniel LeBlanc to the newly created role of Economic Development Manager.

With extensive regional economic development and tourism experience, as well as an accomplished record of financial management, communication and community project delivery, Council General Manager, Gareth Curtis says Mr LeBlanc brings a wealth of experience from around the globe to the Dungog Shire.

Mr Curtis said the position had been designed within the council to strengthen connections with other regional bodies and local industry to benefit the entire shire community.

“This new economic development role has been specifically designed to enhance relationships with government departments, business leaders and other organisations involved in our regional economic development, so that we can work collaboratively to progress the advancement of our shire,” said Mr Curtis.

“Daniel’s significant experience and proven results in the assessment and preparation of economic development strategies, strategic planning and marketing, and economic and partnership projects, made him a standout candidate for the role, and one who will have a strong influence on our region’s future prosperity.”

Mr LeBlanc, whose diverse experience also includes working for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in various parts of the world, cultural and natural heritage protection, charity establishment, and property management and economic diversification, says he is eager to contribute his breadth of skills to the place he now calls home.

“The greater part of my professional career has been dedicated to assisting communities and governments in dealing with difficult economic and social challenges by developing or participating in the creation of strategies and actions to address these situations,” said Mr LeBlanc.

“I welcome the opportunity to contribute these skills and experience to the Dungog Shire, and as my wife originates from this area, we are very much looking forward to settling here with our young family and actively contributing to the development of our region.”

Mr LeBlanc commenced in the role on 22 April.
