Latrobe City Council unveils $88.5 million capital works program

Latrobe City Council is encouraging the community to have their say on its draft 2026/27 Budget, which includes a total capital works program of $88.5 million comprising of $39.6 million from the 2026/27 year program and $48.9 million of continuing multiyear projects.

The Council says its draft Budget supports the strategic directions of the Council Plan and Community Vision 2025-2029, with $3.8 million allocated to road maintenance, $7.8 million to presentation of public spaces and $1.5 million to the community grants program.

The draft Budget has been prepared as a balanced cash budget, continuing to place Council in a strong financial position, said Mayor, Sharon Gibson.

She said the draft Budget will help to deliver some major projects and services the community has been waiting for.

“During the pre-budget community consultation last year, we asked people to tell us any specific projects, priorities or ideas they would like considered as part of the budget process. We received 50 submissions and used this input to shape the 2026/27 draft Budget,” the Mayor said.

“Some of the key capital works projects highlighted in the draft Budget include the multi-use pavilion at Gaskin Park, Churchill, community facility upgrades and playground renewals, preschool renewals at Boolarra and Glengarry, public hall renewal works at Newborough and Churchill, and Joe Carmody Athletics Track resurfacing.

“I’m really pleased to see these local projects included in the draft Budget which will benefit a range of communities across Latrobe City.

“You can now view the draft Budget on our Your Say platform. Any feedback we receive from the community will be carefully considered,” she said.

This Budget also includes the introduction of a new Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) kerbside collection service.
