Julie Reid has been appointed as Executive Director of Local Government Victoria.
Ms Reid (pictured) joins the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions from the City of Kingston, where she has been CEO for almost two years.
Prior to this, she spent 10 years at an executive level leading city development and engineering/infrastructure portfolios at Whitehorse and Greater Dandenong City Councils. She has also held senior roles in large councils in the UK (including Westminster City Council), rural councils in New South Wales and several Victorian councils, including Bayside and Casey.
Local Government and Suburban Development Deputy Secretary, Emily Phillips said Ms Reid’s diverse experience in local government encompassed planning, urban design, sustainability, economic development, building, waste, capital works delivery, community engagement, arts, culture, events and more.
She is a qualified Master of Planning and has a Graduate Diploma in Management and Bachelor of Arts (Urban Studies). In 2017, Julie was named as one of the Top 50 Public Sector Women in Victoria.
“Julie will bring a great deal of passion to this role and I know that she will lead Local Government Victoria with integrity and enthusiasm to support the Minister for Local Government and the sector,” said Ms Phillips.
“I would also like to offer my thanks to Colin Morrison for his commitment and leadership as Acting Executive Director since March 2020 through what has been a busy and challenging time. Colin will transition back to be a member of the Local Government Victoria leadership team upon Julie’s arrival.”
Ms Reid will commence with Local Government Victoria on Monday, 1 March.
