The first tenant has been locked in for Ipswich’s newest dining hub in the $250 million Nicholas Street Precinct revitalisation with established restauranteurs Janet Cao and David Wang bringing That Dumpling Place to the CBD.
Ipswich Mayor, Teresa Harding said she is delighted to welcome That Dumpling Place and Ms Cao and Mr Wang to the city.
“That Dumpling Place has seized the opportunity to be the first tenant to take advantage of this prime retail space in the heart of Ipswich’s revitalised civic centre,” Mayor Harding said.
“This dining hub will become the go-to destination for a mix of food and beverage venues surrounded by our new libraries, Tulmur Place and state-of-the-art retail and entertainment spaces that will continue to attract more and more Ipswich residents and visitors to the CBD.
“This is the beginning of the retail phase of the $250 million Nicholas Street Precinct and we look forward to making many more announcements for neighbouring tenants in the Eats dining hub in coming months.”
Ipswich Central Redevelopment Chair, Councillor Marnie Doyle said the dining hub would provide a relaxed atmosphere with great food that is accessible to residents.
“With the successful execution of the precinct’s first lease, we can confidently say this is a positive step in the future success of the Nicholas Street Precinct,” Cr Doyle said.
“We have many other tenants progressing through the leasing process and we hope to be able to announce other exciting food and beverage tenancies over the next month.
“The revitalised Nicholas Street Precinct is moving forward with Eats and outdoor dining, we have created a modern entertainment area.”
That Dumpling Place will be Janet Cao’s and Mr Wang’s third outlet in Queensland alongside their previous Fat Dumpling restaurants at Fortitude Valley and Bowen Hills.
“We are looking forward to serving the Ipswich community,” Ms Cao said.
“It is exciting to be part of a rapidly growing city with the first foot in the door of the new retail, dining and cultural destination, Nicholas Street Precinct.
“We know the Ipswich community will love our dumplings which are prepared daily inhouse, each hand made using locally sourced ingredients.
“They are just like how mum makes them at home – fat, juicy and packed with flavour.”
