Hunt takes the reins at City of Busselton

City of Busselton Council has announced its new interim CEO, following the resignation of Tony Nottle last month.

Dr Garry Hunt PSM (pictured) has been appointed to commence in the interim CEO role. Dr Hunt is a highly experienced local government CEO with extensive leadership experience forged over several decades working in the sector. He was the CEO at the City of Joondalup for 16 years, CEO at the City of Perth for eight years and he was also the CEO at the City of Melville for eight years prior to that.

Dr Hunt also served as a member of the Senate of Murdoch University from 2004 to 2013, was a member of the Local Government Advisory Board for eight years and more recently, established a consulting firm providing advisory and coaching services.

He will commence with the Council on 15 September and work for the next six to eight months while the recruitment process for a new substantive CEO is undertaken.

“We have been lucky to have had Tony as our CEO since 2022. With his dedication and leadership skills he has set the bar high and Council will, in time, formally seek applications from quality applicants to replace him in the position,” said Mayor Phill Cronin.

“Until then, we are delighted that Garry will be coming on board with his considerable knowledge, skills and experience to fill the CEO role in an interim capacity.

“As Interim CEO, Garry will be supporting us through the upcoming election period and will lead the onboarding of any new Councillors. The CEO recruitment process is rigorous and will take a few months, so we expect to have a new CEO starting with us in early 2026,” he said.

Dr Hunt said it was a privilege to be able to join the Council and be able to offer strategic leadership and support to the organisation in the role of Interim CEO.

“I look forward to working with elected members, the executive team, staff and the community over the next few months, and will be delighted to lead the organisation forward until the Council has completed their recruitment process and appointed a new substantive CEO,” he said.

Current CEO, Tony Nottle, tendered his resignation in July and will continue working as the City’s CEO until 12 September.
