Hume Council tribute to city’s first mayor

Victoria’s Hume City Council has recognised and paid tribute to former Councillor Carl Lewis, who passed away on 30 January.

Councillor Lewis (pictured) was Hume City’s first Mayor (1997 – 1998) and served as a Councillor for Culpin Ward from 1997 until 2000. He also served as a Councillor on the former City of Broadmeadows.

“Carl Lewis bought the best of community focused friendship, care and cultural learning opportunities to the south east and wider Hume communities,” said Hume City Council Mayor, Councillor Carly Moore.

“At the heart of his time on Council was a commitment to providing welcoming community facilities nurturing new opportunities, early childhood development, community strengthening and the sharing of cultural knowledge in a safe, respectful place.

“Carl was a Councillor in Hume’s formative years and his legacy will live on through the Lynda Blundell Centre and the many community activities that take place in this community.”

In recognition of his advocacy for the Lynda Blundell Centre and commitment to lifelong learning, Council in October 2018 re-named the Hall at the Lynda Blundell Centre the Carl Lewis Hall.
