Hornsby Shire residents are opening their doors to help others create more comfortable, energy-efficient homes through Hornsby Shire Council’s new Love Your Home video series of home energy hacks.
Featuring Cowan resident, Michael and Berowra resident, Ruth, the series showcases practical home upgrades that can improve comfort, lower energy bills and reduce household emissions. From sealing draughts and adding insulation to installing solar panels and batteries, the videos highlight simple changes that can make a big difference.
Local households generate around 65% of the Shire’s total carbon emissions, making home energy efficiency one of the biggest opportunities to reduce emissions across Hornsby Shire.
Mayor, Warren Waddell said the videos provide practical, real-world advice from locals who have already made improvements to their homes.
“The experiences shared by Michael and Ruth demonstrate that home energy upgrades don’t need to happen all at once. Small changes can make a noticeable difference and help households plan for future improvements,” said Mayor Waddell.
“One of the simplest hacks featured in the videos is sealing gaps and draughts around the home. It’s a relatively inexpensive upgrade that can help keep homes warmer in winter and cooler in summer.”
Residents interested in learning more about solar and battery systems can also attend Council’s free Solar and Batteries webinar on Tuesday 13 October.
Presented by a home energy efficiency expert Adam Corrigan, the webinar will cover how to better understand energy bills, secure a better electricity rate and navigate the process of installing solar and battery systems.
