Hornsby Mayor expresses sympathy over stabbing tragedy

Hornbsy Shire Council Mayor, Philip Ruddock AO, has expressed his shock and sadness at the tragic events at Westfield Bondi Junction.

“On behalf of the Council, staff and community of Hornsby Shire, I would like to express my shock and sadness at the tragic events at Westfield Bondi Junction this weekend,” the Mayor said.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of those who have lost their lives and wish those who were injured a full recovery.

“We commend the bravery of the police, first responders and all those who selflessly endeavoured to help their fellow humans. And to everyone who was caught up in this terrible event, we hope that you can find support and peace.

“While we all try to understand how such a horrific event came to happen in Australia to ordinary people going about their daily lives, our hearts go out to Mayor Paula Masselos and the Waverley community. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.”

The Mayor said the flags of Hornsby Shire would fly at half mast tonight as “a symbol of how our community is united in support for everyone affected by this tragedy”.
