Hobsons Bay Council has launched a LGBTIQA+ business directory, showcasing local businesses that are rainbow-owned or rainbow-friendly in the Local Government Area.
Council says the online resource came to life as a result of feedback from the LGBTIQA+ community, which indicated there was a need for a dedicated business directory for LGBTIQA+ community members.
Businesses listed in the directory have been nominated by community members and verified by Council officers. More than 15 businesses are already listed from a range of sectors including health and wellbeing providers, food and drink businesses and more.
“This directory is another great way to support our LGBTIQA+ community in Hobsons Bay,” said Mayor, Daria Kellander.
“Thanks to Council officers, community members and participating businesses for getting behind the directory.”
Iridis Cosmetics CEO and founder, Peta-Gai McLaughlin said the company was proud to feature in the new directory.
“I think it is a great initiative by Council. Being a queer business ourselves, we know there are many businesses that are incredibly supportive of our LGBTIQA+ community in Hobsons Bay, this directory helps highlight them,” said Ms McLaughlin.
“I hope more and more businesses get involved. I know for us it will be an opportunity to promote ourselves while also celebrating diversity and inclusion.”
Rainbow-operated or friendly businesses wishing to be listed on the directory are encouraged to email commdev@hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au
The directory can be found at hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au/rainbowbusiness.
