Hobart signs off on successful careers expo

This week’s Hobart and Southern Tasmania Employment & Careers Expo brought together employers, training organisations and jobseekers from across the region at MyState Bank Arena.

The free event was delivered by the Glenorchy Jobs Hub, with funding support from Glenorchy City Council and the City of Hobart Council, and is designed to connect people with real employment, training and career pathway opportunities.

The Expo featured more than 100 employers and training providers from a wide range of industries, offering attendees the chance to discuss current job vacancies, apprenticeships, traineeships and study options directly with organisations that are actively recruiting.

Attendees were also able to access free resume reviews and interview practice sessions on the day, helping them improve their job-readiness, confidence and presentation skills. Interactive exhibits and immersive displays showcased different career pathways, including hands-on demonstrations and virtual experiences that bring industries to life.

Throughout the day, industry professionals took part in Q&A panels, sharing insights into their career journeys, workforce expectations and practical advice for people entering or re-entering the workforce.

Mayor, Sue Hickey said the Expo plays an important role in helping people build long-term, meaningful careers.

“The word career is particularly important,” Mayor Hickey said.

“This Expo isn’t just about finding a job for today — it’s about helping people build a sustainable and rewarding career for tomorrow.”

Deputy Hobart Lord Mayor, Zelinda Sherlock reinforced the importance of the event.

“We are supporting this expo because we want every member of our community to feel connected to opportunity, supported in their goals, and confident about their future.”

“By bringing employers, trainers and jobseekers together in one welcoming space, this event strengthens our community, opens doors and helps build a thriving, inclusive Hobart for everyone,” said Cr Sherlock.
