Historic Mayoral appointment for Bland Shire Council

Bland Shire Council has a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor, with Councillor Lisa Minogue elected Mayor and Councillor Malcolm Carnegie elected Deputy Mayor at last night’s Council Meeting.

The election marks an important milestone for Bland Shire Council, with Councillor Minogue becoming the first female Mayor in the Council’s history.

Mayor Minogue takes over from Brian Monaghan, who did not seek re-election after eight years serving as Mayor of the Bland Shire.

The new Mayor said she was honoured to take on the role and looked forward to working with her fellow Councillors to represent the community.

“I’m honoured to have been elected Mayor and I see it as a role that is about working with our Councillors and our community to get the best outcomes for Bland Shire,” she said.

“For me, it’s about working together as a Council, supporting our Councillors and making sure we are achieving the best we can for our community.

“I also look forward to advocating for Bland Shire and making the most of the relationships and networks I have built to make sure our community’s voice is heard.

“There is a lot to be proud of in Bland Shire and I’m looking forward to getting on with the job.”

Mayor Minogue has served as Deputy Mayor for the past two years and has been a Councillor since 2024.

Councillor Malcolm Carnegie was elected Deputy Mayor at the same meeting. He said he was looking forward to working alongside the new Mayor and fellow Councillors.

“I’m pleased to take on the role of Deputy Mayor and I’m looking forward to working with Lisa and the rest of Council,” Cr Carnegie said.

“We both have a strong focus on our community and I’m looking forward to contributing to the work of Council and supporting the Mayor in her new role.”

The new Mayor and Deputy Mayor said they were looking forward to working together to represent the interests of the Bland Shire community and deliver positive outcomes for the Shire’s towns and villages.

The Council also recognised Cr Monaghan’s eight years of service as Mayor and thanked him for his leadership and commitment to the Bland Shire community during his time in the role.

“Brian has been a strong advocate for Bland Shire throughout his time as Mayor,” Mayor Minogue said.

“On behalf of Council and our community, I thank Brian for his leadership and for the many years he has dedicated to representing Bland Shire.”

Mayor Minogue and Cr Carnegie will hold the positions of Mayor and Deputy Mayor until the next Council elections, scheduled to be held in September 2028.
