Hinchinbrook Shire Council has expanded its Disaster Dashboard, with new trial road water level sensors to give the community clearer, real-time information during severe weather events.
New blue measuring gauge symbols on the Dashboard show where live data is available. By clicking on these symbols, users can now view road water depths at key locations across the Shire.
“These enhancements support you in understanding your local road flood risk and accessibility for travel during periods of flood or heavy rain events,” Council said in a statement.
If the trial is successful, the Council says it will consider expanding sensors to more frequently impacted roads.
Users can also use the Flood Awareness (Alert) tool to check flood history and potential inundation levels for their own property.
“This information helps you make informed decisions such as when to self-evacuate or action is required to protect your property, such as sand bagging,” Council says.
Always remember to:
- Prepare ahead of disaster season
- Know your risk
- Make a plan
- Pack a kit
- Stay informed and stay safe
