Griffith City Council has endorsed the preparation and submission of grant applications to the NSW Sustainable Communities Program – Economic Development and Infrastructure Round in a bid to secure funding for three major infrastructure projects.
At its meeting on Tuesday, Council approved to proceed with funding applications for enhanced water quality and amenity at Lake Wyangan, improvements at the Griffith Livestock Marketing Centre (pictured) and the upgrade of Boorga Road to support future residential growth.
Mayor, Doug Curran said it was important for the community to understand that the decision does not commit Council to construction or spending at this stage.
“This is about putting our best foot forward and giving these projects the best chance of securing funding,” Mayor Curran said.
“Council has identified these projects as strongly aligned with both the program objectives, Council’s strategic priorities and what we’ve heard from our community.”
Each application will include a proposed Council co-contribution of around 25%, consistent with program guidelines.
This is the second phase of the NSW Sustainable Communities Program available for vulnerable NSW Basin communities affected by water recovery under the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.
Council was successful in the Early Investment round, securing $3 million to beautify the CBD and improve local tourism sites.
