Greater Shepparton City Council says it has been made aware of a potential phone scam operating in the local government area.
Council says residents in Shepparton have reported receiving phone calls claiming to be conducting population growth research.
“Greater Shepparton City Council is not currently conducting any customer surveys,” it said in a statement today.
Residents have been advised if they receive a phone call asking them to update their details, to not provide any information.
“Greater Shepparton City Council will not ask you to provide or update those details over the phone,” Council said.
“If you’re not sure about the legitimacy of a call, please hang up and call us back on 03 5832 9700 or notify the Shepparton Police Station on 03 5820 5777.”
