Grafton landfill site closed after overnight blaze

Clarence Valley Council is investigating a fire which saw the Grafton Regional Landfill facility shut down overnight.

The landfill facility is expected to remain closed over the weekend, with reopening anticipated on Monday, subject to site safety assessments. Council says it will provide further updates should this timeframe change.

“The Grafton Waste Transfer and Recycling Facility at 263 Duke Street, Grafton remains open. However, due to limited capacity, residents are urged to only use this facility if absolutely necessary,” Council said in a statement.

“Clarence Valley Council acknowledges and thanks its Landfill Team, along with Fire and Rescue NSW and the NSW Rural Fire Service, for their coordinated response and tireless efforts in working throughout the night to contain the fire.

“Council appreciates the community’s understanding and cooperation.”
