Goulburn Regional Art Gallery has been named as a nominee for three outstanding projects in the 2025 IMAGinE Awards, presented annually by Museums & Galleries of NSW.
The IMAGinE Awards celebrate excellence, resilience, and innovation across the state’s museums, galleries, and Aboriginal cultural centres.
The Awards offer an important platform for institutions across NSW to share their achievements, highlight their impact, and connect with
the broader cultural community.
This year, Goulburn Regional Art Gallery has received three nominations across two key categories – Exhibition Projects and Engagement Programs – reflecting the Gallery’s wide-reaching role in fostering contemporary art, supporting regional and First Nations artists, and creating inclusive, community-driven programming.
The Gallery received the following nominations:
- Nominated within the category of Engagement Programs is Woven Stories by Wiradjuri artist Jodie Munday. Developed as part of the Gallery’s Gallery 2 initiative, which supports local artists, Woven Stories was a new exhibition of work that generated a suite of community-focused activities, including a weaving workshop and artist talk. The program invited cultural connection and hands-on learning, engaging visiting schools, First Nations communities, and broader audiences in meaningful dialogue and exchange. Through the act of weaving and storytelling, Woven Stories created space for celebrating the innovative work of a local artist and fostered community participation and
engagement. - Nominated within the category of Exhibition Projects is Horizons. A major group exhibition presented in the Gallery’s main exhibition spaces, Horizons brought together nine leading contemporary artists from across Australia to explore the intersections of the body, the natural world, and the built environment. Featuring ambitious, multidisciplinary works, the exhibition responded to iconic sites, ecological histories and complex relationships between people and place. Horizons was a bold and timely statement on environmental connection and contemporary life.
- Also nominated within the category of Exhibition Projects is Sammy Hawker: Conversations with bees. This poignant solo exhibition by artist Sammy Hawker was developed during a regional residency and explored grief, ecological loss and interspecies reciprocity. Using photography, text, and moving image, Hawker’s work reflected a deep engagement with place, history, and community. The exhibition invited audiences to consider their exchanges with the more-than-human world and underscored the emotional and ecological consequences of environmental change.
“These nominations speak to the breadth and ambition of the work we do at the Gallery – from nurturing regional voices to curating timely, relevant exhibitions that resonate nationally. It’s an honour to be recognised alongside so many peers doing important work across NSW,” said Yvette Dal Pozzo, Director, Goulburn Regional Art Gallery.
The 2025 IMAGinE Awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday 26 November at The Refectory, Holme Building, University of Sydney.
