Gold Coast councillor, Ryan Bayldon-Lumsden, has been charged with murder following the death of a 58-year-old man, believed to be the 30-year-old councillor’s stepfather, at a home in Arundel yesterday afternoon.
Queensland Police say that just after 3pm on Wednesday, officers were called to a Chiffley Place residence following reports of a disturbance.
“Upon arrival, emergency services located a 58-year-old man inside the property who was declared deceased,” Police said in a statement.
“A 30-year-old Arundel man allegedly at the property at the time was taken into custody.
“He has since been charged with one count of murder and is due to face Southport Magistrates Court today.”
Cr Bayldon-Lumsden was led from the home by Police wearing a blue forensic suit and with paper bags taped over his hands. It is understood he lived at the home with his mother and her now deceased partner.
The Councillor, who is a former school teacher and popular local figure in the community, has served in Gold Coast City’s Division 7 since being elected in 2020. At the time he was the youngest councillor ever elected for the Gold Coast.
