Councillor, Simone Zmood, has been re-elected Mayor of Glen Eira for 2025-2026, her second term in the Council’s top job.
Mayor Zmood (pictured) will be joined by Deputy Mayor Li Zhang, who represents Wattle Grove Ward.
“I’m humbled and grateful to be supported as Mayor,” Mayor Zmood said.
“I’m proud that so many people were willing to put their hands up for leadership. Over the past year, I’ve focused on inclusive and collaborative leadership, engaging with the community wherever possible. It’s a community I care passionately for.”
As well as taking part in community engagements over council plans and policies, meeting with schools and residents at events, Mayor Zmood said she was also proud of her leadership for further cultural immersion training, making a difference to the relationship between council and community.
She said she looked forward to working with Cr Zhang, who was also first elected in 2020.
“She’s someone who listens very carefully and then comes in a timely manner to share deep insights and suggestions.”
“Under her leadership, we’ll keep building momentum on priorities that matter most to residents and ensure our decision-making remains transparent and accountable.
“Serving as your Deputy Mayor is a responsibility I take seriously — with courage, dedication and a strong sense of purpose.” Cr Zhang also thanked the community for its trust and support.
“Every decision we make is for you,” she said.
Council Chief Executive Officer, Lucy Roffey congratulated the Mayor and Deputy Mayor on their appointments.
“This leadership team reflects our commitment to strong governance and community engagement,” Ms Roffey said.
“We look forward to working together to deliver on Council’s priorities and ensure Glen Eira remains a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable city.”
