The Australian Business Events Association (ABEA) has announced the appointment of Samantha Glass, Director of Corporate Affairs, Communication and Sustainability, ICC Sydney to its Board of Directors, effective immediately.
Ms Glass takes over the convention centre appointed position on the Board from Janet Hamilton, General Manager, Cairns Convention Centre, who has stepped down to concentrate on fostering opportunities for her extended and refurbished centre.
ABEA acknowledged Ms Hamilton’s contributions in establishing the association and supporting its mission.
Peter King, Chair of the Board, ABEA said Ms Glass will be a great asset to the organisation in meeting the evolving industry demands in the realm of sustainability and social responsibility.
“As we continue to build a robust and dynamic Board, we welcome Samantha’s wealth of experience and leadership acumen. We are excited to be able to draw on her passion for sustainable development and brand leadership,” said Mr King.
Ms Glass is known for her role as founding member of ICC Sydney’s leadership team and as an ASM Global ambassador, spearheading pioneering initiatives in sustainability and corporate social responsibility, including ICC Sydney’s renowned Legacy Program and Corporate Social Responsibility Plan.
In adherence to the ABEA Constitution, the appointment maintains the presence of a convention centre leader and advocate, ensuring continuity in expertise, whilst simultaneously maintaining the 50/50 gender balance.
“We are actively considering appointments to cover areas such as emerging leaders, suppliers, and small business representation,” said Mr King.
