Georges River sports field renewal works kick off

Georges River Council has marked the start of its Riverwood Park Sporting Field Renewal Project with a sod-turning ceremony.

The Council said the ceremony signals an exciting step forward in delivering Council’s Open Space Renewal – Turf Sporting Field Renewal Program.

“Riverwood Park is a well‑loved hub for local sport and community life,” said Mayor, Elise Borg.

“It is home to local rugby league, rugby union, and cricket clubs. It’s also a place where schools gather for sport programs and carnivals.

“This project will deliver safer, higher‑quality fields that encourage participation and ensure the park remains an enjoyable space for everyone.”

The project is set to improve the quality, safety and capacity of the existing fields through:

  • Installation of a new irrigation system;
  • Installation of sports field drainage system;
  • Upgraded sports field lighting;
  • New cricket pitches;
  • Turf resurfacing.

Council says the upgrades will support increased participation, improve playing conditions, and enhance the overall user experience for the local community.

Site investigations, including geotechnical tests, are scheduled to commence in early February to inform the detailed design process. Construction is anticipated to begin following approval of the detailed design.
