Ku-ring-gai Council has officially opened the new Indoor Sports Centre at St Ives High School.
The Council says the modern, multipurpose facility will be a major hub for indoor sport and recreation in Ku-ring-gai, available to both the school and the wider community.
Delivered in collaboration with Schools Infrastructure NSW, the centre is located at St Ives High School and has been designed to benefit students during the school day and external hirers after hours.
“As our community continues to grow, so does the demand for high-quality, flexible recreational spaces,” said Mayor, Christine Kay.
“This new indoor sports centre is a significant investment in the health and wellbeing of our residents.”
Ku-ring-gai Council led the second stage of the sports centre by providing funding of almost $30 million. The funding was made up of $13 million from Council’s budget and $13.5 million from a low-interest NSW Treasury loan which attracted a direct interest subsidy of $1.23 million from the Government’s Low Cost Loan Initiative.
A further $3.5 million was provided by the NSW Government through an Office of Sport grant under the Greater Sydney Sports Facility Fund.
The centre features four indoor sports courts, a multipurpose room suitable for meetings and group activities, modern amenities and an on-site café.
“This fantastic new indoor sports centre is a wonderful example of how strong partnerships between the NSW Government, local councils, and schools can deliver modern, high-quality infrastructure that benefits students and the wider community alike,” said NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning, Prue Car.
“By providing versatile spaces for sport, recreation, and wellbeing, we are investing not only in the health and fitness of young people but also fostering community connection and engagement.
“We are proud to support Ku-ring-gai Council and St Ives High School in creating a hub that will inspire active lifestyles for years to come.”
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces, Paul Scully said it’s great to see a high‑quality indoor sports centre delivered for the Ku‑ring‑gai community.
“This facility gives students and the wider community better access to a modern, flexible complex to support active, connected and healthy lifestyles. This is another great example of the NSW Government and councils working together to deliver real, lasting benefits for local communities.”
Council appointed Belgravia Leisure to operate the facility outside of school hours, while St Ives High School manages the centre during school hours.
“We are proud to mark this important milestone alongside Ku-ring-gai Council and the NSW Government to celebrate the completion of the new St Ives Sports Centre,” said Belgravia Leisure CEO, Nick Cox.
“This facility will serve the St Ives community for years to come, and Belgravia Leisure looks forward to supporting inclusive health and wellbeing opportunities to contribute to a stronger, healthier future in and around St Ives.”
