The Queensland Government and City of Gold Coast Council have confirmed funding for a new Police-Citizens Youth Club for the northern Gold Coast, with detailed design work now progressing through relevant approvals.
The $30 million facility is being jointly funded by the Government and Council, with both investing $15 million for the new state-of-the-art facility on Pimpama Jacobs Well Road, which is set to be delivered before the end of 2028.
The new PCYC will include a gym and fitness facilities, an external half basketball court, a kitchenette, two multipurpose spaces and recreational areas. Sport and recreation opportunities for the community will also be expanded with a large gymnastics hall, which will offer PCYC’s Playtime and Little n Active programs, introducing pre-school children to sport while providing confidence, learning and connection.
“This is a critical investment in the health, safety and wellbeing of young Queenslanders,” said Queensland Premier, David Crisafulli.
“PCYC’s offer so much to families and the wider community, whether it’s getting young kids into sport, promoting leadership or encouraging them to strive for a brighter future.
“They also provide crucial early intervention support, to stop kids from falling off the right path and becoming trapped in a life of crime.”
City of Gold Coast Acting Mayor, Mark Hammel said the new PCYC was needed by the local community.
“The northern Gold Coast remains one of Australia’s fastest growing corridors and this is another example of the City investing in our future,” he said.
“The youth of today are tomorrow’s leaders and we know the positive impacts PCYCs have in communities across Australia. This is a project we are proud to be part of.”
PCYC Queensland CEO, Phil Schultz said the organisation was extremely grateful from the support from the Queensland Government and the Council.
“Their coming together for this investment into a new PCYC in Pimpama means that we can deliver vital youth programs focusing on prevention, intervention and diversion, alongside first-class sport and recreation facilities to a rapidly growing community,” Mr Schultz said.
