A new Australian and Queensland Government funding agreement is set to deliver critical and generational infrastructure for regional communities in Queensland, with multiple venue projects now locked in for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Queensland Deputy Premier, Jarrod Bleijie yesterday confirmed upgrades to the Sunshine Coast Stadium will proceed, along with the commencement of procurement for four venue projects.
“This landmark agreement is the beginning of a new partnership that will kick-start the delivery of world-class infrastructure in the 2032 Delivery Plan,” the Deputy Premier said.
“I thank the Australian Government and Federal Infrastructure Minister Catherine King for their commitment of $3.4 billion towards this legacy infrastructure as we continue to work together to deliver the best Olympic and Paralympic Games ever.
“I am also very pleased to announce that, building on what we have heard from industry, we are asking to hear from those keen to build these remarkable projects.
“In addition to the funding agreement and our new Games venue planning laws, we are kicking off Games venue procurement for Sunshine Coast Stadium marking a major milestone for the project.”
The funding partnership comes a week after the Queensland Government passed the landmark Planning (Social Impact and Community Benefit) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2025, which will also streamline the delivery of Games infrastructure.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor, Peter Flannery, welcomed the venue procurement update by Deputy Bleijie.
“This Expression of Interest (EOI) by the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) is an important milestone for our Moreton Bay Indoor Sports Centre,” Mayor Flannery said.
The venue will feature 12 indoor playing courts across two halls for sports including basketball, gymnastics, netball, volleyball, badminton, futsal, pickleball and wheelchair rugby before and after the Games.
“The sprint towards success has well and truly started and I say loud and clear, we’re ready to go!
“This announcement provides real certainty for Council and accelerates the delivery of our new multi-use venue.
“Our planning has been well advanced so now we can keep the ball rolling.”
The Mayor said the Council had already made a significant contribution, committing the land, associated precinct works and connections as well as the project support team for delivery of the new venue.
“Now that GIICA has gone to market for a Principal Design Consultant we are well and truly in delivery phase,” he said.
“We look forward to working with the Games delivery partners, including the State and Federal Governments, on some of the legacy enhancements required to deliver the best outcome for City of Moreton Bay residents.
“We are keen to ensure the Moreton Bay Indoor Sports Centre potential prior to and after the Games can be realised.”
With a 10,000-seat capacity, the venue will enliven the entire precinct at Petrie and lay the groundwork for future growth investment in the key Brisbane 2032 site, said Mayor Flannery.
The Council recently announced the earthworks and remediation tender to lay the foundation and groundwork for the site including construction of new roads and associated services. Works are due for completion by mid-2026.
