City of Fremantle Council has welcomed the WA Government’s announcement that the Swan River Crossings project will progress, after local residents voiced a range of opinions on the previous concept.
The Council says it considers the new design to be simpler, architecturally more elegant and avoids major changes to landscape and road layout at the southern end of a new bridge.
Fremantle Mayor, Hannah Fitzhardinge said the Council looks forward to working with the State Government as the project moves through the approval processes and delivery.
“The City particularly looks forward to working with the project team in its planning to minimise any negative impacts on the community during construction,” Mayor Fitzhardinge said.
Back in September, 2020, the Council called on the State Government to press pause on the traffic bridge to allow for greater community engagement.
