Female-friendly sports upgrades for Nillumbik

Victorian Local Government Minister, Shaun Leane, has officially opened new female-friendly sporting facilities for communities in Greensborough and Hurstbridge.

The Minister joined Member for Yan Yean, Danielle Green and Nillumbik Shire Council members to launch the new Greensborough Hockey Multi-Purpose Pavilion and the Hurstbridge Multi-use Pavilion.

“We are delivering facilities that are accessible while supporting the health and wellbeing of everyone in our community,” said Minister Leane.

The $2.75 million redevelopment of the Greensborough Hockey Multi-Purpose Pavilion has delivered a new meeting room, unisex change rooms, new umpires’ facilities, expanded kitchen facilities, a first aid room and an accessible ramp from the carpark.

This project was supported by $2 million from the Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund and $90,000 from the Greensborough Hockey Club.

The $1.77 million Hurstbridge Community Multi-Use Facility Upgrade has transformed the old pavilion into a multipurpose community space through the expansion of social rooms and addition of accessible, female-friendly change rooms and bathroom amenities, an umpires’ room and improved car park access.

This project was supported by $705,000 from the Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund and $150,000 from Sport and Recreation Victoria.

“These projects are vital to community health and getting more women involved in sport – these new facilities will be a game-changer for people to stay active and healthy all year round,” said Minister for Community Sport, Ros Spence.

Nillumbik Shire Councillor Richard Stockman speaks at the opening of the new facilities.

The projects were delivered by the Nillumbik Shire Council, which received $28.9 million since 2015 to deliver 19 projects through the Growing Suburbs Fund.

“I’m thrilled these new facilities are now open and look forward to seeing how local sporting clubs benefit and grow including the Greensborough Hockey Club, Hurstbridge Football Netball Club and Hurstbridge Cricket Club,” said Member for Yan Yean, Danielle Green.
