Federation Councillor Cheryl Cook has been elected Mayor, with Councillor Rowena Black appointed to the role of Deputy Mayor following an extraordinary meeting of Council yesterday.
Cr Cook was elected to the position of Mayor, defeating Cr Derek Schoen, who was also nominated for the position, with a vote count of 5 to 4.
Cr Black was elected to the position of Deputy Mayor unopposed.
“Thank you to my fellow Councillors for their support, it is greatly appreciated,” Mayor Cook said.
“We are now at a point of transition, reflection and opportunity for influence and growth. I intend to bring a positive and balanced approach to my mayoral leadership and have a strong desire to see a strong team working for the best outcomes for our diverse community.”
Federation Council Deputy Mayor, Cr Rowena Black said she was honoured to be elected to the position of Deputy Mayor.
“I look forward to working alongside Mayor Cook and fellow councillors over the next two years to make positive contributions and address the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for our region,” she said.
