Kiama Council has installed two electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at the town’s major local conference and events centre.
The two stations, which provide four charging ports, are at the south-east end of The Pavilion’s car park on Bong Bong Street in Kiama.
Mayor, Cameron McDonald said the new stations marked a modest but important first step for Kiama Council supporting local EV infrastructure.
“Installing council-owned EV charging stations is a major part of Council’s Corporate Emissions Reduction Plan (CERP),” Mayor McDonald said.
“It’s critical if we want to encourage the transition to low carbon transport, especially with the many tourists who visit our area.”
Funding for the chargers was provided by the NSW Government thanks to a Drive Electric NSW EV Destination Charging Grant.
The charging stations are free to use until February 2025, after which time the following rates will be introduced:
- 50 cents for connection
- 50 cents per kWh
- $5 idle fee per every 10min that users over-stay (once car charge is full).
