Shellharbour City Council is moving forward with plans for a proposed hotel development on a 6,736 m2 Council-owned site.
The land is located next to the popular local The Links Golf Course at Shell Cove, and is 300 metres from the soon-to-open Shellharbour Hospital.
“Shellharbour has a lot to offer, from our marina, world-class golf course and our beautiful natural spaces. This hotel is about adding to that. It will help bring more visitors, boost local jobs and give businesses new opportunities to grow,” said Mayor, Chris Homer.
“This supports our long-term vision for a thriving, well-serviced community, while also creatingfshort term accommodation opportunities to support health care workers, patients and their families visiting the new hospital.”
The Council is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from experienced hotel developers to partner with Council to bring the hotel plans to life.
“As Shellharbour City continues to grow, Council remains focused on planning for the future. As one of the fastest-growing cities on the NSW South Coast, Shellharbour is thriving, creating fresh opportunities for tourism, business and the local community,” Council said in a statement.
“With a regional airport offering direct flights to Melbourne and Brisbane, and the Shell Cove Harbour strengthening coastal access, the addition of a new hotel will add even more reasons to visit Shellharbour. The new hotel will give visitors more options for short stays, create local jobs, and help host bigger events, meetings and conferences.”
The EOI calls for proposals for a hotel on a 6,736 m2 site (Lot 1 DP 1098888). Plans should include at least 140 rooms, a restaurant and bar, meeting and event spaces, a wellness and gym area, dedicated parking and the facilities needed to run the hotel.
EOI submissions close Tuesday 23 September, with the hotel targeted to open by the end of 2028.
