Devonport plan to restore vandalised bluff grasslands

Devonport City Council has developed a plan to rehabilitate grassed areas at Bluff Headland impacted by recent incidents of vandalism and hooning.

Council says the headland has long been a treasured destination for both residents and visitors, offering breathtaking views, recreational opportunities, and a natural sanctuary within the city.

“However, the recent surge in destructive activities, including vandalism and hooning, has posed a serious threat to the landscape’s integrity and the safety of our community and wildlife,” Council said in a statement.

It’s plan includes sustainable landscaping practices, increased security measures, and the introduction of recreational features to deter any future anti-social behaviour.

“Council remains fully committed to preserving the natural beauty and functionality of the Bluff for the enjoyment of present and future generations,” said Devonport Mayor, Alison Jarman.

Works will soon get underway on the installation of timber bollards and raised garden beds to restrict vehicular access to grassed areas and improve the amenity.

Future work such as roadside footpath linkages and a viewing platform are proposals that will be considered and progressed under future budgets, the Mayor said.

“We kindly request the support and cooperation of the Devonport community during the implementation phase. These measures are crucial to ensure the longevity and safety of this cherished public space, and together, we can preserve the Bluff Headland as a pristine and inviting destination,” she said.

“As we move forward with these vital restoration works, Devonport City Council assures the public that Council remain dedicated to preserving the beauty and environmental integrity of the Bluff Headland, ensuring that the iconic landmark continues to be a source of pride and enjoyment for all.”
