COVID alert for Ballina airport

NSW Health has confirmed a Virgin flight travelling from Sydney to Ballina has been added to NSW’s list of COVID-19 exposure sites.

NSW Health has advised anyone who travelled or worked on Virgin Flight VA 1139 on July 14 to get tested and isolate for 14 days from the date of exposure, regardless of the result of the test.

Ballina Byron Gateway Airport has moved to assure the public that stringent measures continue to be in place at the Airport to protect the community’s health and safety.

“Ballina Byron Gateway Airport is COVID-safe and our health and safety measures remain stringent. We will continue to work with the airlines and the NSW Government to ensure the safety of passengers, staff and the community,” Ballina Shire Council’s General Manager, Paul Hickey said.

“It’s now important all Ballina Shire residents remain vigilant and follow the current NSW Health advice.”

He said the airport and its airline partners were closely following all Federal and State Government public health orders.

“The airport has a COVID-19 Safety Plan and is a registered COVID-19 safe business on the NSW business register,” he said.

Current public health advice is that those who feel unwell do not travel and get COVID tested. The following measures are in place at Ballina Byron Gateway Airport:

•    Mandatory check in at all workplaces and retail businesses;
•    Mandatory check in for all departing passengers at the terminal entry, and arriving passengers when they disembark;
•    Contactless temperature testing;
•    Safety screens at customer service desks within the terminal;
•    Increased cleaning and sanitisation of all touch points, counters, tables, chairs, bathrooms, doors and screening equipment;
•    Access to the terminal is restricted to passengers only, except where passengers require genuine carer’s assistance;
•    Social distancing of 1.5m required whenever possible as per guideline markers on common floor areas;
•    Hand sanitisation stations installed at all terminal entry points;
•    Airport staff wearing masks when serving customers.
