Benalla Rural City Council has awarded the tender for the construction of the Benalla Art Gallery Stage 1 Redevelopment to Midson Construction (Vic) Pty Ltd.
The decision, made at an additional Council meeting, follows a rigorous tender process aimed at securing the best value and outcome for the community, Council said in a statement.
The appointment marks a significant milestone in revitalising one of regional Victoria’s premier cultural assets, ensuring it remains a vibrant hub for locals and visitors alike, said Mayor, Bernie Hearn.
“Midson Construction brings extensive experience to the project, and Council is eager to see works commence,” Mayor Hearn said.
“We know how much the Gallery means to Benalla Rural City residents, and getting Midson Construction on board means we are one step closer to giving the community the modern, accessible gallery it deserves.”
The redevelopment aims to modernise the facility, improve accessibility, and enhance the overall visitor experience while respecting the gallery’s architectural heritage.
Gallery programs will continue to operate at a temporary site during the build, ensuring that art and educational workshops remain accessible to schools and the public throughout the construction phase.
The Pop-up Benalla Art Gallery is located at 75 Bridge Street East, Benalla.
