City of Perth reaches for tree festival

The City of Perth Council says preparations are well underway for this year’s WA Tree Festival.

The Council is hosting a range of events from 6 April to 5 May as part of statewide tree celebrations. The festival highlights the importance of daily connections to nature and how the community can help to protect the State’s tree canopy.

The festival is a precursor to Council’s own month-long celebration of trees in May, known as Tree Month.

“Tree Month recognises the importance of community involvement in urban greening and helps contribute to long-term strategic planting goals outlined in the City’s Urban Greening Strategy 2023-2036,” Council said in a statement.

“The City aims to increase canopy cover in City streets and parklands to 30% by 2050.”

As part of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Trees in Cities Challenge, the City of Perth has also pledged to plant 1502 trees between 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2024.
