City of Moonee Valley Council has acknowledged the resignation of State Member for Essendon, Danny Pearson, who announced on Monday that he would not contest the 2026 State Election in November.
In a statement, Moonee Valley Mayor, Rose Iser said Mr Pearson had made a significant contribution to the state and been a prominent voice for Victoria’s jobs and economic growth.
“Our community will miss him as our local member; he is a familiar face around Moonee Valley and has worked tirelessly for the seat of Essendon,” she said.
“On behalf of the City of Moonee Valley, we thank Danny for his efforts and wish him and Nicole, and their family, all the best for their next chapter.”
Mr Pearson said he looked forward to working with the new ALP Candidate for Essendon in the months ahead.
“I am so pleased that since 2014, we have delivered record investment to the State District of Essendon and we have been able to transform the lives of the most needy in our community,” he said in a statement.
“New housing, new employment opportunities for people living in the towers, every public school receiving significant infrastructure upgrades and the development of an outstanding secondary college in Mount Alexander College have transformed the community for the better.
“I look forward to building on this legacy as we go from strength to strength in the months to come.
“In public life, there are only two questions that matter. What do we have to do to win? What do we have to govern well?
“I am incredibly grateful and fortunate to have had the opportunity to work in the service of answering those two questions.”
Mr Pearson was one of three veteran Labor MPs who this week announced they were standing down from their ministerial roles and would not contest the next state election, with Mary Anne-Thomas and Gayle Tierney also stepping down from their current portfolios.
