City of Melville Councillor, Tomas Fitzgerald, has announced his resignation, effective immediately.
Cr Fitzgerald (pictured) has represented the Palmyra-Melville-Willagee Ward since 2019 and has advocated for social issues such as responding to the impacts of climate change, during his tenure, the Council said in a statement.
The Council says his position will not be filled at the upcoming October 2025 local government elections.
“An extraordinary election will need to be held and the City of Melville is working with the WA Electoral Commission on the timing of this election,” it stated.
Mayor, Katy Mair thanked Cr Fitzgerald for his contribution to the community.
“We wish Tomas all the very best for the future and sincerely thank him for his service to the City of Melville,” she said.
