City of Melville Council is celebrating the national recognition of its Coordinator Resource Recovery and Waste, Vanja Marjanovic, as a woman leading the way in sustainable waste management.
Mrs Marjanovic received Australia’s Woman of Waste award at this year’s Waste Innovation and Recycling Awards held recently in Melbourne.
The annual awards celebrate significant contributions to Australia’s waste, resource recovery and recycling sector by individuals and organisations who are advancing sustainability and smarter waste management solutions.
Known as a Waste Management Champion at the City, Mrs Marjanovic has significantly advanced sustainability through a variety of progressive initiatives such as the pre-booked verge collection service launched in January 2024.
The Woman of Waste award recognises the implementation of Vanja’s innovative waste management practises and her expert leadership of waste management programs with internal and external stakeholders.
Mrs Marjanovic has been implementing positive change in waste management since she joined the City of Melville in July 2022, said City of Melville Mayor, Katy Mair.
Today, she leads a team of 30, encouraging and empowering her team to find better ways to reduce our footprint on the land, while engaging community support.
“We’re absolutely delighted that Vanja has won the Woman of Waste Award at this year’s Waste Innovation and Recycling Awards,” said Mayor Mair.
“The national recognition has been so well deserved as Mrs Marjanovic and her team work with passion and dedication to find better ways to manage waste.
“Resource Recovery and Waste Management plays a significant role in delivering our vision for a clean, green and sustainable City for our current and future residents.
“The award is a strong recognition of the work Mrs Marjanovic and her team do as they promote the sustainable use of resources to optimise waste reduction and resource recovery.”
