Canada Bay $4.4m seawall upgrade builds

The City of Canada Bay Council has begun work on a $4.4 million upgrade to Iron Cove Seawall from Sisters Bay to Birkenhead Point.

“I am pleased to announce we are commencing a multimillion-dollar project to improve the Iron Cove seawall,” said Mayor, Michael Megna.

“Enjoyed by visitors from all across Sydney, the Bay Run is an iconic destination and we are committed to protecting and enhancing the foreshore around this beloved community asset.”

The upgrade will involve repairing existing sandstone seawalls, and installing rock revetments and reinforcement to help protect the foreshore from coastal erosion.

“This project builds on our 2020 upgrade of the heritage sandstone seawall and rock armour adjacent to Neild Park, also along the Bay Run,” said Mayor Megna.

Construction will take place in stages starting with Sisters Bay, near Drummoyne Swimming Pool, and is anticipated to be complete in July 2025.

This project is being jointly funded by the NSW Government in association with the Council.
