Cairns Regional Council has moved to consolidate its policies on diversity, access and inclusion under one overarching policy.
A new Diversity and Inclusion General Policy was endorsed by Council today, replacing both the Access and Inclusion and the Cultural Diversity policies, which were both readopted in 2018 and due for review.
“By creating one policy, Council has centralised its approach to diversity, access and inclusion, which is underpinned by the principles of social justice and human rights, as well as be aligned to relevant anti-discrimination legislation and human rights frameworks,” Council said in a statement.
The policy also contains a framework which commits Council to advance diversity and inclusion in three key foundations:
- Within the workplace
- Through the provision of Council services, facilities and programs, and
- In the broader community.
