Bundaberg community radio volunteers sitting pretty thanks to micro grant

A Bundaberg Regional Council micro grant has 94.7 FM Coral Coast Community Radio volunteers sitting pretty, with the funds used for a studio chair upgrade.

The community station received a $1,060 micro grant from Council to replace its worn and unstable studio chairs, improving the work environment of more than 40 active volunteers.

Radio station Secretary, Tim Wilde said the chair upgrade had made an immediate difference to the station’s daily operations and the wellbeing of those using the studio.

“Our presenters and guests spend long periods seated during live programs, interviews and production work,” Mr Wilde said.

“Replacing [the chairs] wasn’t just about comfort, it was about safety, accessibility and professionalism.”

He said the Council micro grant support meant a great deal to the station and its volunteers.

“Community radio operates on tight budgets and grants like this allow us to improve facilities that directly benefit volunteers and the community.”

“It’s encouraging to know Council recognises the value of local media and the role we play in community connection, emergency information and local storytelling.

“[Council] support helps us continue delivering a service that is truly for, and powered by, the community.”

Mr Wilde said he would encourage other community groups to apply for funding through the program.

“The Micro Grant Program is designed to help organisations take practical steps forward,” he said.

“If you have a project that improves safety, accessibility, participation or community connection, it’s worth applying.”

Council’s micro grants program aims to provide financial assistance to community groups and associations that meet recognised community needs. The available financial assistance per micro grant application for eligible projects or events is up to $2,000.

A new round opens on the first of the month and closes the last Friday of the month.
